Pokémon GO’s May events were pretty awesome to take part in, but this month’s events look to be just as fun! (And I’m super excited for July’s GO Fest, but more on that next month!)
Throwback Champion 2020
First up is the follow up to May’s events, which will mean special tasks for lots of Unova Pokémon. As mentioned last month you can earn five Rare Candies and reward encounters with Galarian Meowth, Galarian Stunfisk, and Genesect.
Everyone will also be seeing the first gen 8 Pokémon introduced into the game! From the beginning of the special event until June 8th, everyone will have access to special 7km egg hatches and Pokémon from the Unova region appearing more in the wild, with the special egg hatches including:
– Galarian Meowth
– Galarian Zigzagoon
– Galarian Darumaka
– Galarian Stunfisk
Didn’t finish every throwback week? You can purchase a special ticket that’ll grant you entry into the event. Strangely, you can also buy this even if you did complete them all and you’ll get slightly different rewards overall.
Personally, I’ll be sticking with the standard rewards instead of spending money when it’s not needed.
I’m currently up to stage two of the challenge… ‘Win 15 raids’, ‘Hatch 15 eggs’ and ‘Evolve 5 Pokémon’ so it’s not exactly one you can rush through as with the ones from last month!
From June 9th we’ll have the return of spotlight hours, which are fairly good for finding shinies as the spawn rates of the Pokémon are increased drastically. I’ve only had one successful hour so far though, being Bronzor (when I managed to get four shiny mons).
Anyway, line-up is as follows:
- June 9th: Patrat
- June 16th: Numel
- June 23rd: Clefairy
- June 30th: Kricketot
The shiny forms of Patrat and Clefairy are both in the game, so there’s a chance of finding a shiny during those two hours.
Replacing Reshiram, Zekrom raids begin on June 16th, with the first raid hour being June 17th. As Zekrom is an Electric-/Fire-type, make sure you’ve got some high CP Mons that are Ground-, Fairy-, Dragon- or Ice-type! (A high CP Flygon for example would be great).
We don’t have much information on the Solstice-themed Event as of yet, other than it runs from Friday 19th June to Wednesday 24th June. In the past, the event has been different based on the hemisphere you’re in. Northern hemisphere had an increased spawn rate of fire-types whilst the Southern had more ice-types spawning.
I’m hoping that this will be an opportunity for catching more Fire-type shiny Mons, but we’re yet to hear more about the specifics with it still being a couple of weeks away.
Weedle Community Day
Toward the end of May we had the chance to vote for our next two Community Days, and the Pokémon that won were Weedle and Gastly. So first up we’ll get Weedle Community Day on June 20th!
Beedrill evolved during the Community Day hours will know Drill Run, a Ground-type move.
Make sure to take part if you’re hoping for a shiny Beedrill!
Bug Out Event
The Bug Out Event will run from June 26th to July 1st, and it’s likely to be that this event will have increased spawn rates of Bug-type Pokémon.
As with the Solstice-themed Event, we’ll be getting more information on this one closer to the time!
I’ll be posting more Pokémon-related blog posts in the next couple of weeks, and there’s most likely going to be a large emphasis on my shiny collection so far so if you’re interested make sure you follow this site for more updates!
